Mr. Monbrum's Assistant Principal/Athletic Director Page

Welcome to the Coal City Middle School!  Our building serves students in grades sixth through eighth. Students at CCMS are challenged academically and given multiple opportunities to participate in sports and extra-curricular activities.  I am looking forward to serving as the assistant principal for the 2023 - 2024 school year!

My Career and Education:
I am a 2003 graduate of Coal City High School.  Athletics were a big part of my life as a child and throughout my years as a student within the Coal City School District.  After graduating from CCHS I attended Eastern Illinois University from 2003 - 2007.  I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in December of 2007.  The first five years of my career were spent at Windsor Jr. Sr. High School.  At Windsor I taught Physical Education, coached varsity baseball, and was the K-12 Athletic Director.  Eastern Illinois University was a short drive from my first teaching career, approximately 25 miles straight east of Windsor.  In 2010 I decided to go back for an administrative degree from EIU.  I graduated with a Masters of Science in the spring of 2013.  The last ten years of my teaching career have all been within the Coal City School District.  I currently am the Assistant Principal of CCMS and the varsity softball coach at CCHS.

My Family:
My family consist of our foster child Jakai (19 months) Bryce (8 years) Jaycob (10 years) and my wife Kristen.  Kristen and I got married two years ago in beautiful lake Geneva on the coldest day of the year.  We recently moved off of Lincoln Lake and into town just a few blocks from CCMS. Our two oldest boys both enjoy swimming, reading, and the occasional video game. Jakai has been a recent blessing to our family and we just adore him!

A little about myself:
I am entering my 15th year in education and wouldn't change a thing about my career!  I knew from my high school years that I wanted to go into education and I would encourage my kids to do the same.  Physical Education was my passion and I recently stepped into a leadership position within the Coal City School District.  In my spare time I enjoy traveling, snowboarding, and riding my bicycle.  Fun fact, I once purchased a school bus and converted it into a camper that my boys and I used at the Coal City Area Club.  My first 12 summers of teaching were spent on college campuses such as UCLA, Boulder, and Michigan. On campus I would run pre college enrichment programs for students from all across the globe.  Helping others is a passion of mine and a trait that I hope to pass onto my own children and students.
