Mrs. Larson's Social Studies Page
Hello! My name is Mrs. Jackie Larson and I am starting my 19th year teaching middle school students. I attended Illinois College of Jacksonville where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and played college tennis. I later went on to get my Masters in Educational Administration through Governor's State University. I received my second masters this past year and obtained a Masters in Reading Specialty as well. I am married to Mr. Larson, the 7th grade math teacher and we have 2 children. Sydney is going to be in 6th grade and Troy is starting 3rd grade this year. I currently teach 6 classes of Social Studies at Coal City Middle School. Social Studies standards have been changing, so my class looks a little different than in years past. Our main units include Geography, Economics, Ancient Civilizations in history (Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, India, Rome, Greece), and also Inquiry. Inquiry is where students will learn how to research non-fiction information correctly. They will have the opportunity to choose a topic they are passionate about and research to solve their essential question. We will also spend time on current events. Even though students will learn lots of interesting facts, it is a priority in my class that students learn skills such as communication skills, "team or group" skills, reading strategies, writing strategies, and most of all have an avenue to explore their passions and creativity. I believe it is my responsibility to INSPIRE!!
