Coal City Middle School Bands have been preparing music for this year's Fine Arts Festival taking place Sunday, Feb. 23. At this year’s festival, the sixth grade band will be performing New World Symphony by Antonin Dvorak and Energy!
“In our preparation of New World Symphony, students have taken time to explore the music and upbringing of Mr. Dvorak. Understanding why he moved to New York City and what musical pieces influenced his writing has been a joy to explore in class,” said director Andrew Brimm.
The seventh and eighth grade band will be performing The Magic of Harry Potter and Pirates of the Caribbean.
“We know everybody will enjoy these timeless movie classics and hope you join us to hear them…and even a pirate fight,” Brimm said.
Finally, the jazz band is preparing a group of classic jazz repertoire called In The Mood and It Don’t Mean A Thing, If It Ain’t Got That Swing. The jazz band is also looking forward to performing these tunes and many others with the Joliet Junior College Jazz Band on Friday, May 2 at 7 p.m. in the JJC Theatre.
The Fine Arts Festival schedule has the jazz band performing at 1:45 p.m., sixth grade band at 3 pm. and the seventh and eighth grade band will follow at 3:15 p.m. The festival will be held at Coal City High School and the community is encouraged to attend this free event.
