Scholastic Bowl medals at tournament

The Scholastic Bowl Coalers at Coal City Middle School  placed second in the AVM Scholastic Bowl tournament this past weekend.

The Coalers won against Bolingbrook Brooks 310 to 50, Joliet Hufford 245 to 75, and Troy 300 to 75 placing the Coalers in the tournament championship against Joliet Washington.

The Coaler's resilience and commitment were truly put to the test during the tournament championship against Joliet Washington. Despite facing a challenging match where Joliet Washington led by as much as 85 points, the Coalers demonstrated exceptional perseverance. They mounted an impressive comeback, narrowing the gap and bringing the match down to the last question. In a thrilling finale, the Coalers fought valiantly but, unfortunately, fell short by seconds, conceding victory to Joliet Washington.

Captain Brady Pierson was on fire all day and led the scoring for the Coalers with 190 toss up points while Jaybird Leman added 100 and the ferocious Xavier Baer added 90.  Travis Blatzheim and Ben Manering contributed 20 points while Tess Jeschke, Mel Leman, and Damion Libner each added 10 points to a very fun and successful day in scholastic bowl.

Brady Pierson received a second-place medal and Xavier Baer earned a fourth place medal for the most toss-up points in the pre-championship rounds of the tournament.

Tournament coaches commended all of the players for their great teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the day.
