The Coal City Middle School Coaler wrestling team traveled to Marseilles to compete in the Illinois Elementary School Association [IESA] regional on Feb. 24. The Coalers took first place overall winning by over 150 points and had 22 wrestlers advance to the sectional tournament.
Regional champions for the Coalers are Kamden Gabehart, Brantley Brooks, Ryder Gill, Phoenix Senodenos, Roman Taylor, Carter Wix, Max Christensen, Gabriel Hamilton and Michael Herrera.
Second place finishers are Grady Jensen, Gavin Roudis, Ryker Long, Carter Teague and Casey Stanford. Third place finishers who are also advancing to the sectional meet are Camden Schott, Jason Piatak, Banien Durkee, Eathyn Rivera, Dominic Zuccarello, Levi Marshall, Wyatt Ricke and Thomas Poole.
The Coaler wrestlers will compete in East Peoria Saturday, March 2 for a chance to wrestle at the state tournament March 8-9 at the Northern Illinois University Convocation Center in DeKalb.
