About Us

Coal City Middle School proudly serves the sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students of Coal City Community Unit School District #1. Built in 2000, our school is home to approximately 450 students and supported by a dedicated team of more than 60 certified teachers and staff members.

At Coal City Middle School, we are proud of our strong academic tradition. Our curriculum and assessment practices are aligned with the Illinois Learning Standards to ensure our students are well-prepared for high school and beyond. In addition to our core academics, we offer a robust fine arts and encore program that gives students the opportunity to explore a wide range of interests before advancing to Coal City High School.

Outside the classroom, Coal City Middle School offers more than 20 extracurricular activities, including athletics, clubs, and organizations—ensuring that every student can find a way to connect, contribute, and grow.

Our Vision

At Coal City Middle School, we strive to be a school committed to providing an engaging, challenging, and collaborative learning environment where students become critical thinkers and lifelong learners.
