About Me

Hello!  My name is Michelle Sobieck, and I teach 7th-grade language arts, reading, and social studies at Coal City Middle School.  This will be my eighteenth year teaching, and I will be a speech sponsor at the middle school again this year!  Previously, I have coached the CCHS football pom squad, the CCHS winter pom squad and competition dance team, and CCHS wrestling cheerleading.  Additionally, I will be teaching dance again this last year, making this over fourteen years of teaching dance!

Being a Coal City Alumni, I take great pride in working within this district.  After graduating from CCHS, I attended Illinois State University where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with endorsements in middle school, language arts, social science, science, and math along with a minor in dance education.  After teaching for a few years, I then continued my education at the University of St. Francis and graduated with a Master's Degree in Teaching and Learning.  I also completed my Reading Specialist degree from Olivet Nazarene University.  As a teacher, I firmly believe in life-long learning!

My husband, John, and I have been married for twelve years and have two beautiful and energetic daughters: Makenna (9) and Adalynn (2).  Makenna loves to swim, dance, and play with friends.  Adalynn loves puppies, to laugh, learn, and never stop moving!  We also have a dalmatian named Evie, who loves going for walks and treats.  Spending time as a family is very important to us; we love to go out to eat, play at the park or go to the zoo, and go on vacation!  (I have graciously passed my Disney obsession on to my daughters already!)  If I do happen to find some spare time, I enjoy dancing/Zumba, reading, and listening to music!
