About Me

My name is Jen Munsterman, and this is my twenty-second year of teaching.  I have been teaching seventh-grade language arts and reading at Coal City Middle School for the past nineteen years.  Prior to teaching in Coal City, I taught eighth-grade language arts in Yorkville.  In addition to teaching in Coal City, I also serve as a sponsor for the Speech team, Spelling Bee, Student Council, and Scholastic Bowl; and I am the 7th-grade BSAP coordinator.  In the past, I have coached volleyball, track, and softball for the Coal City school district.  I have two boys who keep me very busy with playing soccer and wrestling.

I am a graduate of Coal City Schools.  After graduating from high school, I attended Kankakee Community College where I played softball and volleyball.  I graduated from KCC with an Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts.  Following KCC, I attended Illinois State University, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.  After teaching for a number of years, I attended Governors State University, and I earned a Type 75:  Educational Administration Master's Degree.  Several years ago, I earned my Google EdTech Team Teacher Leader Certification.  I have also completed my Google EdTech Team Leader 2 Certification, and I passed the exam to earn my Google Certified Educator Level 1 badge.

As for my family, I have been married to my husband, Mark, for seventeen years.  We actually met on a blind date in college and have been together for twenty-four years.  We have two children together.  Luke is our oldest, and he is attending high school this year as a sophomore.  Jake is our youngest, and he will be going into eighth grade.

I have two dogs.  Reesey is five, and she is a very spunky morky (Maltese/Yorkshire terrier).  Clare is four, and she is a little more laid-back Yorkipoo (Yorkshire terrier/miniature poodle).

In my spare time, I love to read, ski (water and snow), garden, exercise, play volleyball, ride my bike, and spend time with my family.
