Students open the pages of history

Coal City eighth grade students are opening their books for the  first novel of the year in social studies class.

The students are reading Laurie Halse Anderson’s Fever, 1793. The story takes place in the capital of Philadelphia during George Washington’s presidency.  The story demonstrates the hardships of one family as it struggles to  survive yellow fever.

Social studies teacher Kate Cade said, “Students are making predictions about the events to come and making connections with society today.”
