Coal City Middle School student Liam Allen is the IVC Conference Spelling Bee champion.
Allen, an eighth grader, was one of 29 students participating in the conference bee hosted by Channahon Junior High, and his spelling skills earned him a first place finish. As a school, CCMS finished second thanks to the amazing spelling of Remii Yott and Reagan Jeschke.
“It was an amazing accomplishment for Liam to take first place, and Coal City take second,” said Mrs. Sweeney and Mrs. Sobieck, the school’s spelling bee sponsors.
Liam, Remii and Reagan advanced to the conference bee as they were the top three spellers in the school Spelling Bee.
At the school level, Remii, a seventh grader, was the final speller and took first place, Liam was second and Reagan, a sixth grader, finished third out of nine competitors.
Also participating in the school-wide bee were sixth graders Kamden Gabehart, Elle Gordon and Lily Harding; seventh graders Landyn Pierard and Addison Skaggs, and eighth grader Jackson Dvorak.
Mrs. Sweeney and Mrs. Sobieck shared they are very proud of all of the students who participated.
“It takes a great deal of courage to stand in front of an audience and spell difficult words. To say the least, it was an amazing season to be a part of,” the sponsors said.
