Students in Mrs. Matsko’s sixth grade classes just finished up their unit on rational numbers and have started the next unit that covers numerical and algebraic expressions. In their Expressions Unit, the students have started by learning how to evaluate exponents so they can later simplify numerical expressions using the order of operations.
In eighth grade, the pre-algebra students have started their unit on relations and functions and have been exploring what makes a relation a function. They have also learned to identify when functions are linear or nonlinear and what happens to the graph of a function when it is increasing, decreasing, or staying constant. The students used a Desmos activity on the speed of racing turtles to explore the slope of linear functions.
