Middle School Coalers headed to state

 

 

The Coal City Middle School wrestling team traveled to East Peoria on Saturday, March 2 to compete in the Illinois Elementary School Association [IESA] Sectional tournament and the Coalers took second as a team and are sending eight wrestlers to state. 


Advancing to state with second place wins at the sectional are Brantley Brooks, Ryder Gill, Jason Piatak, Phoenix Senodenos, Max Christensen and Fuzzy Hamilton

 

Third place finishers set to wrestle in the tournament are Gavin Roudis, Ryker Long

 

Wrestling action gets underway Friday, March 8 and continues Saturday, March 9 at the Northern Illinois University Convocation Center in DeKalb.

 

The seventh grade Lady Coaler Volleyball defeated Charleston in two sets to claim the Sectional title and secure a spot in the state finals.  The Coalers head into the state finals with a 19-3 record.

 

At the title game on Monday Marina Figge led kills with 6, followed by Liv Ferrari and Emma D'Orazio each with 3. Marina Figge led digs with 10, followed by Penny.D'Aarcy and Emma D'Orazio each with 7, Liv Ferrari with 3, and Darcie Ladas with 1. Avery Male led points with 12 pts, 1 ace; Marina Figge had 8 pts, 2 aces, Liv Ferrari had 6 pts, 3 aces; Ava Mills had 4 pts, 2 aces; Darcie Ladas had 3 pts, 1 ace, and Emma D'Orazio had 1 pt. T

 

State tournament action gets underway Friday, March 8 at 5:45 with the Coalers taking on Chatham Glenwood at Normal’s Kingsley Junior High.
